Warrant: 21st December 1915
Meetings: Fourth Thursday, Oct – Nov, Jan – Apr
Installation:
The Petition to form a New Craft Lodge to meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at Bootle Masonic Hall between January – April and October – November was completed and signed by the original 23 members of ‘The Eureka Lodge’ on the 4th November 1915 and approved by the members of ‘The Bootle Lodge 1473’.
The reasons given to form this new lodge were as follows:
- The three Lodges at Bootle are getting unwieldy on account of the large membership particularly – the Bootle Group lodge No.1473.
- There has been no New Lodge stationed in Bootle for over a period of 21 years in which time the population has nearly doubled.
- Masonry in Bootle is very progressive and the accommodation at the Masonic Hall is very satisfactory.
This Petition to form ’The Eureka Lodge’ was then issued to the Grand Secretary, the Very Worshipful Brother Sir Edward Letchworth at Freemasons Hall, London on the 24th November 1915 for consideration from the Most Worshipful Grand Master. This application to form a new lodge was successful and the Warrant for ‘Eureka 3763’ was issued on the 21st December 1915.
The Consecration Ceremony for the newly formed ‘Eureka 3763’ took place at the Town Hall, Oriel Road, Bootle on Friday February 18th 1916 at 4 p.m. And the ceremony was performed by the Consecrating Officer the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master Louis S. Winsloe, P.G. Treasurer and assisted by Grand and Provincial Grand Officers.
Once the Consecration Ceremony was completed all the Brethren below the rank of Installed Masters were invited to leave the Lodge and during their absence W. Bro. Mark Wilkinson was installed first Master of Eureka 3763.
Of the 23 founding members which included a School Master, Chartered Secretary, Postal Supt, Iron Monger, surveyor, Paint Manufactures, Tobacconists, Contractors, Timber Merchants, Hoteliers and the Vicar of St Faiths Church in Crosby, 9 when on to become Master of Eureka Lodge.
The Lodge Crest
The lodge crest has an image of the Greek mathematician Archimedes in front of a Greek temple. The image is pinned to a Pythagorean five pointed star, about which is entwined four banners. The top banner has the text reading ‘EUREKA!’. And the remaining three banners at the sides and below, have text reading ‘EUREKA / LODGE / No. 3763′. Framing the device is a foliage motif, and surmounting it is a set square and compass motif.
